Together Has Debuted on Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Relationship.

Consider this a challenge for those in enduring partnerships who enjoy horror films: Settle in with your significant other and stream Together. This critically acclaimed 2025 movie has now made its streaming debut via Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like typical biological terror, but within Together exists a intense contemplation about our choices in loving our partners.

A Debut Feature Exploring The Nuances of Love

Together marks the introductory feature for filmmaker Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as Millie and Tim, a pair who are not married that have stayed together for ten years. Having wed in reality in 2017, the actors infuse a unique chemistry to their characters, skillfully embodying both the joys and frustrations of a long-term relationship.

The story starts when the couple move from the big city to the rural area for professional reasons. A somewhat stereotypical plot device, admittedly, but that’s largely where the conventions cease. Together transforms into as much a examination of mental states of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their new home, a storm hits, and the two fall into an hole in the earth. After a night spent there and finally finding a way out, a supernatural entity takes hold of the duo. This force creates a paranormal intimacy between them that goes far beyond simple connection.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, blending moments of hallucinatory nightmares, gross (but never too gross) physical transformations, and authentically humorous dialogue (sometimes in the middle of something grotesque). Michael Shanks skillfully blends these components expertly and presents them in a slowly mounting atmosphere of fear.

Complex Characterizations

A significant portion of Together is only the two lead actors, and they deftly portray numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie's sense of self and emotional bond is suffering due to a distance. Her unspoken irritation of Tim for his reluctance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career inexorably rises.

Conversely, Tim senses confinement and isolated by Millie, who’s the cause they’ve relocated rural and distant from his network of friends. He dreads the concept of utterly sacrificing his individual identity in another person. This fear is intensified by the fact he lacks a driver's license and relies on Millie for mobility.

Shanks’ smartest move is that he refrains from painting one partner or the other the definite antagonist.

Both characters face the sort of issues that are inherent in any relationship over a long period. Fundamentally, they have affection for one another. They share moments of joy, comfort one another, and open up at times. But below this facade, there’s an unavoidable current of uncertainty about their relationship.

Allegory and Meaning

While the supernatural forces in Together symbolize these concerns of codependency and totally devoting oneself to another person, the allegory does not come across as clumsy or pretentious. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments offer a ideal counterpart to the character-driven drama. Both the horror and the drama serve the other in a mutually beneficial way.

A Debated Finale

Together’s conclusion, which won’t be spoiled here, has created disagreement on the story's concluding statement about codependent relationships. Accounts suggest that single viewers have seen the movie as a powerful case for avoiding commitment. On the other hand, a few pairs having disagreements found that the film ultimately assisted them resolve their issues.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could act as a telling indicator of how you view relationships. Will the conclusion sow feelings of uneasiness and dread, or a positive outlook on love? Will you identify in one of the characters and yell at the screen, or simply glance toward your other half and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Regardless of the outcome, Together is an exploration you can experience at this very moment.

Together is streaming on Hulu's platform as of this moment.
